Membership
Membership in Singers of Summerville is open to all experienced singers in the greater Summerville or Charleston area. Singers of Summerville is an auditioned choral group of thirty to fifty singers. We currently have members from Summerville, Ladson, Goose Creek, Moncks Corner, Manning, Charleston and North Charleston.
New Members
New members may join at the beginning of a semester. At that time, the Board President arranges auditions. Those with a successful audition are then placed in the appropriate section by the Musical Director.
One goal of Singers is to present the group as a visually uniform ensemble. Therefore, compliance with dress rules for performances is required.
Attendance at rehearsal each week is essential due to the fast pace and difficulty of the music. If a member misses 25% or more of the rehearsals in preparation for a concert, the Director may assess the ability of the singer to handle the concert material and may ask that he or she sit out the balance of that semester.
Auditions, Dues and Music
Potential members will be required to demonstrate, through a short audition with the director:
- An adequate singing voice that will be “in-tune”, as well as “blend” in a multi-choral setting
- A reasonable reading ability
- A consistent ability to “maintain harmonic accuracy” in a 4-part choral setting
Members currently pay membership dues per concert cycle, with additional music charges possible depending on the cost of the chosen music.

Rehearsals
Rehearsals are held on Monday nights at Bethany United Methodist Church, in the second floor choir room, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Our rehearsals typically begin sometime in late August or early September and continue through the last spring event of the year, with short breaks between concerts or for holidays, depending on our schedule.
